Are you one of those folks who think that their entire lifestyle should be altered completely to have any impact on the planet? Most people who feel this end up doing nothing because they think doing small things won't do any good. But they could not be more wrong. Doing just one or two small things is a lot better than doing nothing. Here's several expert suggestions on how doing even a little can make a huge difference.

One thing that would help lots is if everyone could figure out a way to take even a very short break from using their cars every day of every week. There was a study that indicated, annually, the average person takes a trip in their car of less than 2 miles more or less 2,000 times. That's at least 5 times a day. Evidently, any number of such trips could have been made on a bike or even on foot? Reducing the number of these short car trips would have a big effect on helping to bring down toxic fuel emissions. If you are unable to walk or ride a bike, carpooling at times would be a huge help. Think about 7 people riding together in a van versus 7 people driving 7 autos to accomplish the same things; what a reduction in pollution we would enjoy. Consider a city bus carrying 40 passengers compared to forty autos with one driver. Common sense tells you that a great deal of emissions could be rid of by getting single driver cars off of the roads.

The country’s preferred pastime appears to be squandering fuel. Folks like to sit in the autos with the engine running, which is an obvious waste of fuel, and causes them to breathe in unhealthy amounts of deadly emission fumes. When you are waiting for another person, you really must turn off the car. If you are going to be sitting in traffic for over ten seconds, turn off the engine. Have you noticed the amount of pollution being given out when you are stuch in traffic? Also, if you need to get going on a cold morning, let your automobile warm up while driving as opposed to letting it just sit there idling. Same with sitting in a drive thru, just find a parking space and order your food inside.

There are lots of small ways to save on fuel while you drive. Another easy, small thing you can do is minimize your lead-footing the accelerator. Every driver knows the faster you drive the more fuel you will burn, so learn to drive a little slower. Doing regular engine maintenance helps very much, too; your automobile will run more efficiently and get better gasoline mileage. Changing the oil regularly, and keeping fresh oil and filters in place are great ideas too. If you don't keep your tires properly inflated, you'll consume a great deal of gasoline for no good reason.

These are just some of the small things you can do to bring down your fuel consumption. These things are all not hard to do, and add to your desire to live green. Living a green lifestyle starts with minor steps just like these.
