Eco (London) – Sami Wasif's restaurant on the High Street in Clapham (and just a short stroll from the famous Clapham Common) has been a popular Italian eatery for nearly two decades now. This pizza maestro has concocted the lightest, tastiest sourdough base and combines it with some of the most diverse ingredients you're ever likely to find. Among the more eclectic toppings you can buy a truly world-class Margherita – quite an achievement given you'll be outside of Naples. Generous portions, cracking service and the best Clapham takeaway bar none. Di Fara (New York) – For a UK Italian food lover, Di Fara's is something of a pilgrimage and chances are you'll only get there once in your lifetime. Not so for New Yorkers who know their pie, they queue around the block daily to get a slice of chef Domenico DeMarco's San Marzano sauce with molten cheese. This is no-nonsense eating in the heart of Brooklyn. Be prepared to wait as they only cook one at a time, but the wait is most definitely worth it. However, glittering awards aren't enough, there needs to be a strong tradition behind a great pizzeria and La Sorrentina is a typical family-run restaurant. Chef Pasquale Sivo has been cooking up delicious food for nearly 30 years and his Neapolitan is a prize-winning pie. 40's Cafe (Australia) – If you find yourself in a land down under, or more specifically the wine-producing Barossa Valley, be sure to get a table at the 40's Cafe to sample chef Damon de Ruiter's gourmet pizza. Having won top honours in Oz, Damon is now taking his culinary skills to the international stage to compete with the world's best.
